Both teams looked the part in their pre-game preps and we recognised our old advisory from Eidsvoll last year, Dax Michelina QB for Coventry.
Valencia won the toss and elected to receive the ball. 1st quarter saw a fired up Valencia and a somewhat rusty Coventry.
Valencia marched down the field with some good runs and accurate passes but failed to go all the way and had to settle for a field goal. Coventry failed to answer immediately and instead Valencia scored on a beautiful pass up the middle which was forcefully run around the Jets secondary for a Touchdown. Coventry looked shocked and the crowd fell silent.
Coventry answered right back with a fine pass up the middle to Joe Black for a touchdown and soon after with a short slant pass to no7# for another TD. Halftime score 12 – 10 for Coventry.
Second half saw a much more focused an effective Jets. A big rumble run from Jets no 4# for TD and a high and bad snap by Valencia saw Jets up by 2 and the game was decided. Jets got into a good pass and run rhythm and managed to open up the Firebats defence.
Valencia ran out of fuel but kept their spirit up and had numerous sacks and another fine pass for a TD.
The game ended with a 36 – 16 win for the Coventry Jets.
After the game we met up with some of the Coventry players, coaching staff and Garys dad for some food and well earned pints and were pampered big time through the nite. Hope we can return the favour on the 26th of April.
