Meet the Men of Many Talents
With the Vikings opening the season 2-1 – with wins against the Starfighters and reigning national champion Vålerenga Trolls, the time has come (and gone) to take a minute and get to know some of our new players! Our two Canadian imports this season are Bailey Feltmate and Chris Cameron-Kogler. The Vikings have been able to bring in two imports with high level experience that are sure to elevate the team. Both
A quick rundown of Bailey’s university resumé includes two Loney Bowls, two-time second team All-Canadien, 203 tackles, 14 TFL’s, 3 sacks and 3 forced fumbles, all with the Acadia Axemen. To give some context the Loney Bowl is the championship game for Atlantic University Sport for football. It represents the highest level of university football in Atlantic Canada.
After university, Bailey was drafted in the second round, 17th overall by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL draft. He would play three seasons with the Tiger-Cats contributing on defense and special teams, even making an appearance in his first Grey Cup game (Grey Cup = Super Bowl, but in the CFL). While with the Tiger-Cats he would also make a switch to offense and fullback while still contributing on special teams. In 2024, Bailey signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where he would again play fullback and contribute on special teams. Upon his retirement from the CFL, Bailey announced he would join the Dalhousie Tigers coaching staff as their special teams coordinator.
Bailey brings great experience as a coach, player, and a great mustache, to the Oslo Vikings. Bailey had the following to say:
“In terms of this season, I am beyond ecstatic to demonstrate the hard work we’ve been putting in for months. We have a special group and to now have the platform to demonstrate that – m it’s going to be amazing. I strongly believe we have the right guys and a group with a championship mentality. A group of men who are consistently willing to put in the work and get 1% better every day. I truly believe in this group and know I can trust each and every one of them to get the job done. My experience thus far has been inexplicably amazing. Experiencing Norway and the Norwegian culture through the amazing guys on the team has been a once in a lifetime experience and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’m beyond pleased to not only have met great football players but amazing men whom I consider great friends!”
But what about the other import, eh? Chris Cameron-Kogler also happened to play at Acadia with Bailey during the 2019 season when Acadia made the Loney Bowl. After finishing his career at Acadia, he would move on to the Western Mustangs where he would play defensive back while getting a degree in civil & environmental engineering. While stats from his university playing days are elusive, Chris has shown over and over on the practice field that he is a dependable playmaker, both on offense and defense.
Driven by problem solving, Chris can find an opening in any defense when playing receiver. On defense on the other hand, he finds a way to decipher offensive schemes so he can be in the right place at the right time. This was evident in the Vikings recent trip to Copenhagen where he found soft spots in the Towers defense, and dotted up the defense while seeing limited time at QB. Outside of the gridiron, Chris has spent time building up the Vikings flag football team and has participated in a couple different tournaments. While stats have been elusive to come by from his college days, C.K was the leading passer in the Eliteseries after week 1, despite originally signing with the Vikings to play defensive back.
To go with his problem-solving skills, Chris had the following to say about the season and experience with the club so far:
“I’m feeling anxious to get started. It’s like the night before Christmas just thinking about the next game day. The foundation that was already set in place before I got here has made the transition to this new environment so smooth and efficient. We have some really special players from all different football backgrounds that I’m excited to see strive for greatness this season. So far, it’s been nothing but blessings coming from genuine people in the OV community. Everyone has contributed to making me feel more like a local every day whether it's going out for food, touring the city, or going skiing up in the mountains. It really does take a village to raise someone, and I feel we are extremely fortunate to have such great people leading our program from the youth, to flag, to the senior elite team. The best support systems breed the best leaders, and that’s what the OV community provides.”
To go with their talent on the football field, Bailey can solve a Rubics Cube in 90 seconds, and Chris is genetically unable to get a brain freeze and can do a weirdly accurate impression of a dog’s bark and loves to show it off. Ask him about it next time you see him. What can’t these versatile guys do? Well, I genuinely don’t know. Both guys have thrived in any situation they’ve been thrown into both on the football field and socially within the club. Through three games they have both played out of position, Bailey moonlighting as a left tackle, and C.K starting at QB for our first game. Turns out these guys are pretty good at the whole football thing. Expect to see both guys flying around on offense and defense making plays this spring!
Your next chance to see Bailey, Chris and the rest of the Vikings senior elite team is this coming Saturday. The Vikings will be squaring off against Lillestrøm May 9th, 14.00 at Frogner Stadion.
PS. Chris’ fun fact may or may not have been entirely made up by the author.
